Ellis Crasnow, Ph.D.

Director, STEM³ Academy and STEM Education, The Help Group

After earning his PhD in philosophy from USC, Dr. Crasnow taught widely at the college level, both in the U.S. and South Africa. He joined The Help Group in 2008, teaching high school math, science and English before becoming Principal of Village Glen High School.

In 2012, The Help Group began a STEM program that Dr. Crasnow led. Dr. Crasnow is a frequent international speaker at conferences on the importance of STEM education and its benefit to those with social and learning differences. Dr. Crasnow speaks on the integration of STEM content and social emotional leaning.

Lisa Reid, Ed.D.

Program Administrator, Teacher

Dr. Lisa Reid was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She holds a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with secondary emphasis in Educational Psychology, a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with secondary emphasis in Gifted Education, a Teaching Credential,  and a B.S. in Biology.

Lisa completed post-doctoral coursework in Educational Therapy at California State University, Northridge and is endorsed by the Association of Educational Therapists as an Educational Therapist/Professional. Dr. Reid has spent over a decade in the K-12 teaching system. She founded Reid Day School which later transitioned to The Learning Center in March of 2015. Prior to founding RDS, she served as a teacher and an administrator in accelerated school programs and was a learning specialist for 5th/6th grade twice exceptional students at Los Angeles’ Bridges Academy.

Joel Galloway

Math & Science Teacher

Joel Galloway holds a B.A. in Business Administration, a Professional Educators License and a California State Teaching Credential.  He has served as a teacher and a coach for over 10 years.

A strong advocate for students with unique learning needs, he is dedicated to providing them with engaging, differentiated instruction that not only meets their needs but also inspires confidence and a love of math and science. Joel further demonstrates his strong commitment to his students through his involvement with their social skills groups, sports and other extracurricular activities. He is very excited to be joining the Help Group!  He is excited to be a part of The Help Group Learning Center.

Gwen Nakabayashi

Language Arts & Social Studies Teacher

Gwen Nakabayashi  holds a B.A. in Education, a Masters Degree in Special Education, a Special Education teaching certificate, Autism authorization and a CLAD. Gwen has worked with students with unique learning needs for over 15 years and she is committed to providing students the tools they need in order to be successful.

In addition to teaching for well over a decade, Gwen served as a Resource Specialist for Orange Unified School District. Throughout her career, she has continually broadened her impact by providing professional development support to general education teachers and paraprofessionals, creating curriculum, and teaming with allied professionals to develop learning plans for students which promote their educational, physical and social development.
